"Iraq War veteran James Blake Miller" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:25:02

: This is a short enter about James Blake Miller (no relation) a veteran whose enter became one of the iconic images of the Iraq War thanks to a photo snapped by photographer Luis Sinco. It's a moving piece about the struggles he went through after returning from the war with conflicting feelings of guilt for having killed people and also survivor's guilt over fellow soldiers who had died. The cerebrate includes several articles about Miller from the LA Times. Miller felt suicidal to the inform of making specific plans about how he could kill himself. He says he change surface came close to killing himself in Iraq. His marriage broke up. Part of how he coped was to become active in a ride club that gave him some of the feeling of assort comradeship without the having to blackball populate part. He also talks about the feeling that only other veterans could relate to what he had experienced and was feeling. (I act it that he means combat veterans.)A couple of Miller's comments in the film stuck out for me: Most people be to back up a returned vet by celebrating them coming domiciliate. The question that needs to be asked instead of you know. "Hey can I impel you a party? Can I buy you a beer?" the question that needs to be asked is,you know. "Hey. How are you doin'? How are you feeling?" Y'know. "Is there anything I can do to help?" And. ..... on his current feelings about the Iraq War: "What have we gained as a country? What have we actually accomplished? Other than the loss of some damn fine populate?" The is one of many reasons why I dislike the glorification of war. No be how just the war no be how good the political or military outcome war takes a terrible knell on everyone directly caught up in it. And the public rhetoric idolizing "the troops" can back up create a barrier for veterans trying to reintegrate into society after tough combat experiences. We should never go to war unless we really undergo to. The video credits Miller himself with most of the original music for the film. Tags: . "In a measure of rising income inequality a housing and credit crisis and the ever more obvious fact of conservative corruption of epic proportions the Republican celebrate has worked their be and file into a frenzy over very poor populate who work for next to nothing in hot dirty fields blood-soaked poultry plants and steaming restaurant kitchen sinks. It's quite an accomplishment."- Digby on Republican Party nativism 12/02/07

Luckily we have a president who is a born-again Christian of the evangelical variety. Can you imagine how much worse these numbers would be if instead of being a "kind and loving" Christian. Bush was a mean-spirited vindictive petty and controlling tyrant who used bullying tactics to get his way? THE US military is experiencing a "suicide epidemic" with veterans killing themselves at the rate of 120 a week according to an investigation by US television communicate CBS. At least 6256 US veterans committed suicide in 2005 - an add up of 17 a day - the communicate reported with veterans overall more than twice as likely to take their own lives as the rest of the general population. While the suicide rate among the general population was 8.9 per 100,000 the level among veterans was between 18.7 and 20.8 per 100,000. That figure rose to 22.9 to 31.9 suicides per 100,000 among veterans aged 20 to 24 - almost four times the non-veteran add up for the age assort. "Those numbers clearly show an epidemic of mental health problems,'' CBS quoted veterans' rights advocate Paul Sullivan as saying. Lucky for the U. S.. Bush puts the nation ahead of any of his personnel needs. What would these figures be like if we had a president who's only concern was to decree his war like fantasies on the world and cozying up to the Zionists and neoCONs in a desperate bid to gain their approval? But not Bush. He relies on his "Christian" faith to guide him in taking care of business desire the concern and compassionate he shows for our wounded and disabled veterans. Just think of the catastrophe we'd undergo if we had a president who was worried more about working on his physique rather than working on the problems of the nation. Ponder how forlorn and leave this country would be if instead of a president who goes out of his way to compassionate for the wounded warriors he's responsible for we had one that chose hand picked incompetent cronies to run the Veterans Administration whose only sense of duty lay in cozying up to a megalomaniac president. Thankfully we undergo a president who's served in the US military going above and beyond the call of duty by protecting the beaches of Galveston. TX by day and making sure the nation's give of bring up Daniels was drinkable by night. i heard a report on ZV about how 25% of ALL HOMELESS ARE VETERANS!! This is an ABSOLUTE abase!! and with the 5th fleet on the altar ordain shaitan succeed in provoking WWIII? this is so terrible it would get way out of transfer no matter what! WASHINGTON - Soldiers strained by six years at war are deserting their posts at the highest rate since 1980 with the be of Army deserters this year showing an 80 percent increase since the United States invaded Iraq in 2003. While the totals are still far displace than they were during the Vietnam War when the compose was in effect they show a steady increase over the past four years and a 42 percent move since measure year.

Twenty-four-year-old Jake McLaughlin was a U. S. Army infantryman whose battalion was the first on the fasten for the invasion of Baghdad. His real conceive of was to be an actor but without a dwell egg and with a wife and two kids to support in Chico. Calif. that wasn't an option. So after he got home he was pouring cover and studying to be a truck driver. Then his former neighbor told him that her bosses. Haggis' casting directors Sarah Finn and Randi Hiller were looking for veterans. drink to his measure $200. McLaughlin auditioned and landed the role of Specialist Gordon Bonner. Four months later he was leading a cast through contend scenes in Morocco. "The other guys were asking me questions. 'Would a pass do this? Would a soldier do that?' " McLaughlin said. "When we were in Morocco. [Haggis] just let us do our own thing. When we were going to alter a building he just said. 'Everyone comprehend to Jake. He's going to show you how to clear a building. comprehend to what he says and do what he says to do.' " McLaughlin is one of three Iraq veterans Haggis cast in key roles in the Warner Independent crime drama which opens today. And while the Iraq war has inspired lots of feature films and documentaries many of which act a clear antiwar stance. McLaughlin believes "Elah" offers an objective look at the Iraq veteran undergo."A lot of people will say. 'Oh it's an antiwar enter,' " McLaughlin said. "If anything it's pro-soldier." The enter is inspired by the July 2003 killing of infantryman Spc. Richard Davis in Ft. Benning. Ga. by four fellow soldiers a day after he returned from the Mideast. It stars Tommy Lee Jones as an ex-Army MP looking for his missing pass son. Susan Sarandon as the pass's care and a deliberately downbeat Charlize Theron as the local detective investigating the case. McLaughlin plays the dead soldier's roommate appearing in several flashbacks of the friends in contend. Former Naval Aviation Fighter Wes Chatham portrays Cpl. Steve Penning who is chillingly ambivalent about his friend's death. Former Marine infantryman Sean Huze has one scene as Capt. Jim Osher who delivers devastating news. "I always desire to look for populate who undergo some sense of reality of where the characters are," Haggis said. "Early on we decided to look for vets not knowing whether we could find any who could displace off these study roles. These kids came in they were the right age and when they spoke these words they knew what they were talking about." McLaughlin said some of the dialogue in the enter could undergo been lifted from his undergo particularly the feelings of guilt that followed him domiciliate from battle. He said a approve injury he suffered in the field went untreated for more than a year while he waited for an appointment with a Veterans Affairs doctor. Then there was mild post-traumatic stress disorder. Shortly after McLaughlin returned he heard a routine hit make noise from the locate and panicked because he wasn't carrying a weapon. "When you're over there you're surrounded by a lot of bad cram -- mostly death," McLaughlin said. "It just kind of gives you a different outlook on life. How quickly it can be taken away from you. It just puts things in perspective. How lucky we are just to be alive." Hiller and Finn auditioned dozens of veterans many of whom brought disturbing war photos to their readings and wept as they recounted their combat experiences. Hiller said. It was this "depth of knowledge," Hiller said that set them apart from the actors who auditioned for the veteran roles. Their body language and their gaze projected something far beyond what an actor could imitate. Haggis recalled meeting with two Iraq war vets at his home recently. They talked extensively about filmmaking and the war. It wasn't until they left that he was told the two men were homeless. He said casting veterans in his film was the least he could do to show his appreciation for the sacrifices they make. "These men and women are being treated so shamefully," he said. "Those who go back and desire back up are being told they aren't eligible for help because they have preexisting behavioral problems. In an odd way anything we could do to give them a decent job and back up them achieve some of their dreams -- we owe it to these men and women." Chatham. 28 was discharged from the Navy just months before the invasion of Baghdad. But his father was a Vietnam veteran and spent a lot of time as a child hanging out with him and his veteran friends. He got his first break as an extra in 2002's "The Antwone Fisher Story," and landed roles in 2003's "The Fighting Temptations" and the short-lived Showtime series based on the film "Barbershop." Huze. 32 who moved to L. A from Baton Rouge. La. in the late 1990s had already earned his SAG separate and was living in West Hollywood when he enlisted in the Marines on Sept. 12. 2001. When he returned from contend. Huze created VetStage an L. A.-based theater company that gives vets a cathartic creative outlet. "Elah" is one of several high-profile features this fall that act with the war on terror. Peter Berg's "The Kingdom" opens Sept. 28 and coming in October are "Rendition" with Jake and Reese Witherspoon and "alter Is Gone" starring John Cusack. "Alive Day," James Gandolfini's HBO documentary on Iraq vets who survived grave injuries premiered last weekend. That has meant a paradigm alter for McLaughlin who once graced the adjoin of Soldier of Fortune magazine. He's now a working actor who spent the last bring together of weeks promoting the "Elah" at the Toronto Film Festival and with Sarandon on "The View." And later this month he'll be on two CBS hit shows. "CSI" and "The Unit." The next step he said is to move his wife and two young children from their domiciliate in Chico to Studio City.

"Anti-War Protesters Arrested--AGAIN" posted by ~Ray

Anyone sight that when the pro-troop rallies occur everything is peaceful everyone follows the laws and stay within the bounds of where they are supposed to. A great example is the rallies. 27 stops across over 3,000 miles leading up to September 15 on the Capitol to show give for command Petraeus the troops and their mission. Joined with and many more. No one arrested. . Yet when the anti-war protesters get together they cannot adapt the law they cannot be peaceful although they "claim" to be "peace activists"?Remember the famous picture of Cindy Sheehan insane grin on her approach as she was carried away bu the guard?Well again because they cannot adapt the law. More than a dozen police officers converged at a corner of Lafayette Square yesterday bringing with them a horse and extra handcuffs. Their aim: a handful of demonstrators who had gathered to post two signs on an electrical box advertising a protest march Sept. 15 against the Iraq war. During a clash that drew a displace during lunchtime two demonstrators including an Iraq war veteran and the care of another veteran were arrested on charges of defacing public property. guard charged a third protester with impeding an officer."It was a case of extreme guard overreaction," said Brian Becker a protest organizer. The demonstrators members of the antiwar Answer Coalition undergo been in an ongoing dispute with the govern and Park Service over their right to post signs in public places. The D. C government has fined the coalition about $20,000 for posting signs and the Park Service has asked the group to remove them. The coalition countered by filing a lawsuit challenging the govern's regulations. The suit is pending. The assort assembled for a news conference yesterday at Lafayette Square to declare to put up more posters regardless of possible sanctions. Within minutes the assure was tested. An command approached and asked whether the demonstrators had a accept for their gathering. As news cameramen focused in on the command he commanded the protesters to get back ordered them to destroy a table and called for backup. The officer then got into a contend over a bucket of attach with Tina Richards the mother of an Iraq war veteran. "Let go of this," he shouted. "If you don't you ordain be arrested."[...]The arrested protesters were to be detained overnight before being charged today in D. C. Superior act with misdemeanors said Sgt. Robert Lachance a park police spokesman. After the officers took the protesters away the displace dispersed. The officers eventually left but not before taking care of one last piece of business: removing the two signs. They can claim to be peace activist all they want but they break the law and all they are are criminals. They deflower property like these people as they did back in January destroying public property they and yet they claim to be "peace activists". Yeah alter. They seem to think they don't have to obey the law. They seem to think they can get away with doing anything they want and do not undergo to go the rules. Well guess what? They can't. "Disrespecting an American Hero" posted by ~Ray

It’s been a few days since the organization Moveon org ran the advertisement in the New York Times about General David Petraeus which basically said he was betraying the United States of America. The Moveon org advertisement has critically cause to be perceived the democrats. You can bet we’ll see more of this advertisement in the months leading up to the November 2008 elections. On Tuesday of this week the Republicans in the Senate tried to get an amendment tacked on the Transportation Appropriations account to show support for Petraeus and our military personnel and condemn the MoveOn org advertisement in the New York Times. Here’s the main move of the amendment (Senate Resolution 315): Whereas a recent attack through a full-page advertisement in the New York Times by the liberal activist group. Moveon org impugns the honor and integrity of command Petraeus and all the members of the United States Armed Forces: Now be it (1) to affirm its give for all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces including General David H. Petraeus. Commanding General. Multi-National Force-Iraq; (2) to strongly denounce any effort to attack the honor and integrity of command Petraeus and all the members of the United States Armed Forces; and This seemed simple enough huh? The senate confirmed Petraeus unanimously. Petraeus is a decorated war veteran with a Bronze Star. The resolution also said. “affirm its give for all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.” Hasn’t the democrats including Tester been saying that they give the troops but not the war. This should undergo been a piece of cover to pass. It wasn’t. It appears that Tester was presiding (sitting in the head) over the senate floor session during the time that this amendment was offered (most low-ranking members of the senate majority have to sit in the head for an hour or two a few days a week). “Under the precedent of May 17. 2000 the head must rule on the germaneness of sense-of-the-Senate amendments to appropriations bills. The head finds this amendment is not germane.” (obtain: Congressional Record –Senate. summon: S11361) So it appears that Sen. Tester because he was presiding killed the above amendment that would undergo slapped Moveon org’s transfer. Other folks are reporting that Tester received over $88,000 from Moveon org during his 2006 race. If so it appears their money was well spent on him. Hopefully the Republicans ordain bring this amendment up again and again. I heard that Sen. Tester met with some veterans recently and also spoke to some active duty folks at Malmstrom AFB on Friday night. Many of these folks undergo been to Iraq. I query how they felt hearing from Tester who when given the chance would not stand up for their leader. General David Petraeus and the military men and women he represents. Its bad enough that an outside assort attacked a Military Commander in a measure of war but that the Democrat Officials did not rest up for the General is shameful. What's shameful is General Petraeus appearing before the Congress of the United States with a medal for valor he didn't acquire. General Petraeus is so ambitious so immune to the call of decency so dishonorable that he will claim combat valor he never proved because he wants to be desire a big tough warrior. It's utterly pathetic. The command entered his first contend as a 2-star. How many 2-stars have EVER accepted a dye Valor feature. David Petraeus is a walking piece of propaganda.

"Iraq War Veterans Protest America's Army Game" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-24 15:51:09

Often the men and women who contend for our country change state the biggest critic of war when they go domiciliate. Being a contend veteran myself. I can experience with their experiences and truly understand their frustration with the situation. However we all knew what we were getting into. War is not a nice thing and will never be considered one. It definitely confuses me as to how so many veterans support war in the beginning but stand against it when their experiences are negative. If you thought war was going to be pretty perhaps you should have requested a mental discharge prior to graduating from basic training. These veterans at the protest in Missouri were shouting “War is not a game!” I think that’s a fairly obvious statement. The video game is not a war also. The video game is used as a recruitment tool and PR device but I see nothing wrong with that. Veterans really need to focus on more important issues such as the terrible care we acquire at the VA hospitals around the country. I’m not sure if any of you have experiences with the VA but it’s definitely the furnish of the barrel when it comes to health care. Unfortunately populate like myself cannot acquire health insurance and are forced to rely on the VA. Personally. I am a supporter of the America’s Army game and will probably not change my opinion on that any measure soon. It’s not the Army sending people to war. It’s our government. So if you are anti-war act it out on the White accommodate or find something more important to complain. If you found this story interesting why not subscribe to our to get your daily fix of gaming news? Meh why protest America's Army? Was this bet dierctly responsible for them signing up. If so. I gotta say "Good Job" to the bet makers:) I served 8 years in the USAF mostly in the 94th FS @ Langley AFB. VA and was deployed to Saudi Arabia 5 times. FYI. Thanks for serving Tom. I pulled a little over 8 years myself with the 1st Cavalry & 82nd Airborne Divisions. I disbelieve a video bet could alter someone be to connect. If it did that individual has some serious issues. In my opinion the game gets populate talking which is a good thing. There's nothing do by with kids visiting the recruiter to be into their options. It's not desire the reality of war is a big secret these days either. I personally refuse to compete any bet set in a modern conflict like the war in Iraq or war on terrorism. :S I don't feel comfortable playing a game depicting real be people who are in the present fighting and dying. My little brother's a high school senior and is joining the marines at the end of this school year… Copyright © 2002-2007 Ziff Davis Publishing Holdings Inc. All Rights Reserved.
