""THANK YOU" Is Simply Not Enough" posted by ~Ray

While I was performing at the DuPage County Historical Museum's Tribute to America's Veterans last Thursday evening. I had to honor to hear some great speakers. Col. Jack Amberg. US Army gave a touching tribute honoring the past four-Medal Of Honor recipients. Col. Amberg told four-stories of selfless acts of courage on the battlefield and love for God country and their fellow troops. He also reminded the audience of the sacrifices made and great direction given to us by our forefathers.560-AM WIND communicate personality and patriot. Cisco Cotto performed the "master of ceremony" duties and stayed all night to meet and greet everyone who wanted to communicate with him. The most thought-provoking words came from Kitty Weiner of US Congressman. Peter Roskam's office. Peter was speaking on the floor of the US Congress Thursday night and asked Kitty to be him at this event. Kitty's point just hit me in the heart. She said; " Is saying 'thank you' to our veterans enough? I taught my children to say 'thank you' when someone passes the salt and pepper or when they receive compliments but is 'thank you' enough when we say that to our troops ?"As Kitty continued. I looked around the room; WWII Veterans. Korean War Veterans. Vietnam Veterans and a young sailor who had recently returned from Kuwait sitting with his Vietnam Veteran father and his mother all listened. Some were holding their wives hand. Others had their eyes closed in deep thought but the point that " " is just not enough is soooooo true. WWII Veterans saved the world! Korean War Veterans stop the move of communism and Vietnam War Veterans took one for all of us while it took 15-years for us to finally accept them home. It is a fact that a lot of the Vietnam Vets are behind the push to support the troops today. They knew what it was like to come home to " " to one of our troops they shrug it off and act as if I have embarrassed them and that is so endearing to me. They always say. " I wish there was another word we had in the English Language; a word that meant more a new word that meant 'thank you' - 1,000,000 times over. .. but there isn't " will have to do. gratify thank a Veteran this week. .. walk up to him shake his transfer and say; " Thank you for everything you have done for me and all of America " It isn't hard to do and believe me you'll feel great inside. Please never drop your freedoms all of your freedoms are because of the sacrifices of our great veterans. I experience my brothers and sister and.

Today is Veterans Day. the day we take measure to honor the nation's men and women who have answered the country's label to duty. I had the honor of spending measure today with a very special Vietnam Veteran. His label is Sam Beamon. Sam served with the Marines as a helicopter crew chief back in the mid 1960's. In Vietnam he flew more than 3-hundred combat missions. He carried troops he carried cargo he did whatever was necessary to support the troops. Now 40 years later. Sam has written a book about his experiences. It's titled Flying Death the Vietnam undergo. In the schedule. Sam shares his own memories of the war and the impact the helicopter crews made in helping the contend troops on the ground. I want to say thank you Sam for sharing your story with us. I am looking forward to giving your schedule to my brother Sam when he returns from his tour in Kuwait. Anyone else compassionate to overlap a story of a Vietnam veteran they are proud of?Thank you Veterans. SaraHere's the link to Sam Beamon's story I was listening to Sam,and when he said 300 missions,I said 300!and he said His Mother was praying so then that made me grimace,he was thinking about his Mother, how sweet.. my Dad brought amo on the ships, and my Brother inlaw was a Marine, most of the fellas in town were there,Danny Sullivan went but didn`t make it out alive, mine handle. Marylyn Smith in town was in the service then too. I was only 12 then and a nervous wreck with everyone going to war. George Hesser got shot and sent domiciliate. Larry Santamaria is cooking in the town kitchen these days, the Chief of guard Tommy Terribile was in the Air Force. Ron Whitman is a Chaplin with a Mission that has no boundries because it has Commandments. And to everyone else i be to convey You for you particapation in keeping our borders safe and our shores remove from invaders.~Peace Glenna~ My special Thanks to Sarah and her cameraman Ken for doing an excellant and professional job in in telling my story. My schedule is available online. For more information and ordering - Please contact me on my web site. Say -Thank You to a veteran for their service - those two words mean alot to a Vet. Freedom is not free - it was bought and paid for with the daub and lives of our veterans. The real Heroes are those that gave their lives for you and me. They gave up their tomorrows for our todays. Semper FiSam Beamon Sara-- convey you for your kind words. Yes many of us have some good stories about sacrifices of the time but why overlap them? The media is doing the same thing on the War on Terror they did during the Viet Nam war (after the 1968 Tet Offensive). With the Bush hatred the news is distorted inaccurate political or under-reported with the bad things being over-hyped. Hell the media will not change surface give the Medal of recognise recipients their due respect or any success of the military. Until the media can do their job honestly or accurately. I see no good in sharing any kind of undergo of Viet Nam—unless it is bad then it ordain get a lot of press. convey you for doing your duty as a soldier even though the politicians who sent you to Vietnam were imbeciles. It's gotta be tough knowing that you could be following the orders of a commander with very different beliefs. I'll always consider the soldiers even if they are forced to fight in optional dishonorable and evil conflicts desire Vietnam and Iraq. You can't say enough convey YOUS to Vets and troops now serving. My father died during WWII when I was 5 months old. My preserve is a Korean Vet my son served 4 years at the AFA and then served 4 in the Navy.. comfort can't figure that one out. LOL And my grandson served in Iraq for 2 years. Needless to say we are a military family. I undergo a T-shirt that says "Freedom is not free" on it and darn proud to feature it sooo true!GOD BLESS ALL!!!BTW... I received an telecommunicate with instructions on how to send Xmas cards to troops recovering but now open out that info is NOT correct. If anyone has the proper communicate as to where we can send Xmas cards to either troops recovering or those overseas. PLEASE post it. Thank you. Sean-- I hate to bust your breathe but you seem to undergo a different reality of Nam than I do. Many of those who sacraficed the most thought Nam was to stop Communisum. After we pulled out because of public out cry three million were executed by the Communists. I query if you would label communisum evil as come up? I undergo to admit. I knew very little about the Viet Nam war. I was busy raising three young kids and paid little attention to the news but I evaluate the only disgraceful move of it was the way our own populate treated those that served. I was horrified to find out many were cough out at and ashamed to wear their furnish when they came home due to populate harassing them or putting them down. And don't even get me started on Jane!!!For whatever cerebrate they were there or whether you agreed or disagreed with the war they were comfort OUR troops and to be treated desire that is in my eyes. TOTALLY UN AMERICAN! Governments aren't in the business of deciding what is right or do by they are in the business of doing what their citizens be. The citizens wanted out of a useless impossible war. They finally got it. That was the alter thing to do. Government should never back up guess the citizens desire Bush seems to do when he implies that we "don't understand" if we want the war over. It doesn't be if we don't understand government exists to serve the people. Sean—it appears you evaluate others undergo a choice of their government and that governments do the will of the populate. come up I visited China in the 90’s and if you said anything against the government you would be in jail. Also. Cuba has a lot of populate that have risked their lives to get out of there. Either you are ignorant to the world around you or you very naive. Then of cover you could be a Communist sympathizer. In either case you have no right to evaluate our soldiers are stupid and fight our wars blindly following the CIC. Today’s soldiers are volunteers and many of them are highly educated. They seem to undergo a different view of the world than you—fortunately. During the Viet Nam war the soldiers were either drafted or volunteered. A weak inspect could be made they were following the leaders blindly. But I have not met any of them that were that stupid. Most of them served very well and that should be more respect than they received from the public. I do think it disingenuous of the media and the left wingers to claim support of today’s military while doing everything possible to back up them loose this war. However they are winning without them because they do support what they are doing. sorry i did not see the story i was in uniform marching in branford's vet day walk.. from the comments i see it was a great story.. ms welch best of luck to your brother.. keep his kevlar on.. i undergo a reletive who served in indo china fruit salad right up to the bring up authorise plate plate feature hates going to florida it reminds him too much of indo china.. but he has funny stories!!! Here is an telecommunicate I got that may be of interest. I evaluate is shows how our military is doing a great job in Iraq.09-12-2007Shocking News From Fallujah. Earlier this week the New York Times published as part of its fall film catch. The writer. A. O. Scott notes that much of Coppola's career has been overshadowed by his early successes namely the first two "Godfather" films but also "" and the spectacle that is "."Scott points to some excellent films that Coppola directed in the 1980s which may not be in the same unify as the aforementioned classics but which are worthy of have in mind nonetheless. Perhaps my favorite is the 1987 film "" which centers on the soldiers assigned to the honor guard at Arlington National Cemetery during the Vietnam War. The film features strong performances from James Caan. James Earl Jones and D. B. Sweeney. Caan is a drill sergeant and Vietnam veteran who is embittered by the war and Sweeney is the idealistic young soldier he takes under his wing. It's hard to evaluate of another enter that so deftly portrays the camaraderie that soldiers overlap and that leads them to lay down their lives for one another no matter what they think of the war they've been sent to contend. It is in other words the ameliorate film for our times. Jonathan,Much has been said (as come up as criticized) about Coppola's work. As good as the first two Godfather films were they were comfort the brainchild of compose Mario Puzo who wrote the novel in the late 1960s. Many people forget that Francis is and Oscar winning writer (Patton) and possibly one of the beat producers of the 1970s – interesting given his disdain for the "Hollywood" machine. The Conversation is one of the most underrated films of all times. It is keystones of the 1970s "Paranoia" films that include The cut Connection. The Parallax View. Three Days of the Condor. Dog Day Afternoon. Chinatown. All the President's Men and change surface Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. What makes The Conversation so special is the film's understated progress the patience it takes to investigate of the psyche of a surveillance expert and his decrease unravel into self-destructive paranoia. The Eerie appear design of Walter Murch. The solo piano music that underscores what Harry has either figured out or is imagining. Also if you pay attention to Coppola's direction you realize the camera is used like a actual surveillance camera - we see only what is in the range of it's believe nothing more. This film is also layered upon forge with subtle clues to Harry Caul's secret world. It is definitely one of my top 5 all measure favorites. Undeniably one of Coppola's best and anyone who shares this sentiment has my utmost respect.-bob

"Veterans War Memorials Defaced" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:45:25

[Major modify below]Defacing our Veterans Memorials is "supporting" the troops to the anti-war crowd. Their hatred for our military that assay life and limb on a daily basis is apparent by the disrespect shown by vandalizing the War Memorials. Yesterday via telecommunicate from (Dean- label added) we see that the Sacramento Vietnam Veterans Memorial located on the Capitol grounds was vandalized and Dean a veteran himself is highly pissed off with good reason. At the MAF rally here in Sacramento yesterday none of the buzzin' little bastards showed up.. they had already done their alter to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial located on the Capitol grounds here. The sons of bitches trashed the place and disperse painted their (redacted) slogans all over. That memorial has the names of 5 California sailors I knew that died in Nam. 2 of them very close friends. In DC there are 22 names of guys I knew some of them close. They won't ever get to see these beautiful memorials because they are dead. So excuse me for being Mr. Asshole but I cannot act this crap anymore. No more trying to be reasonable no more trying to argue with these vermin... I ordain go on the offensive and get right drink in the mud with 'em. I'll do my best to just ignore their worthless comments but just in case this is bring together warning. The news articles about the war memorials being destroyed are all over the web but I do not see many talking about it.( CBS13) SACRAMENTO Vandals have hit the Veterans War Memorial at Sacramento's Capitol Park. Veterans say it is a recurring problem and now they're fighting back. He spent 3 years serving in Vietnam and now Ken Nelson spends his days taking care of those who didn't alter it back.“This is the back up best memorial in the country,” Nelson says. Nearly every day. Nelson protects the more than 5,200 names at the Vietnam War Memorial. But often while polishing the bronze statues he finds himself picking up what vandals left behind.“People sleeping use it for a toilet total disrespect it kind of hurt me,” he says. Nelson says it's been going on for some time. People be deflower the statues climb the sign pole and just yesterday sprayed graffiti.“They don't undergo appreciation for the sacrifice people made you experience these people died,” says Stephen Holm a visitor to the memorial. Surveillance cameras look over the memorial but Nelson says it's not enough. He's asked investigators to step in and keep a closer eye on visitors. The California Highway Patrol says it's listening.“We have ride patrol.. officers on horseback,” says command Bill Brandon. Changes that may just keep vandals away and let a veteran focus on what he came out here to do.“These guys gave their lives for change and no one respects it and I'm here to see it doesn't happen,” says Nelson. of another angry veteran who is egest and tired of seeing this type of vandalism and relate shown to those that fought and died for our great country.. Sept. 1. 2007: ANDOVER — The lyrics of a 1970s complain song and a compose to Iraq were scrawled on the town’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial this week.“War what is it good for absolutely nothin,” was written in red marker along with a peace write. come the locate of the memorial where the evince “our cause is just” is etched a vandal wrote “just like in Iraq.”The lyrics are from “War,” a song that Motown soul singer Edwin Starr popularized in 1970. There was no structural alter to the kill monument which was dedicated May 29. 2006 in The Park near the corner of Chestnut and Whittier streets close to Town Offices. The lay is a popular teenage hangout on pass nights. Police Lt. Harry Collins said the vandalism was under investigation. Burke said he would label in Methuen Monument to assess the alter.“We could probably rub it off but we don’t be to damage the monument,” he said. "Envoy sees no quick end to major US commitment" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:43:08

Envoy Sees No Quick End to study U. S. CommitmentBy DAVID STOUTWASHINGTON. Sept. 11 The United States ambassador to Iraq refused to be pinned drink today on when large-scale American involvement in that country might go to an end but he signaled that it would not be soon. Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee whose Democratic head and ranking Republican were openly skeptical of develop in Iraq that although many challenges lie ahead the situation is slowly improving. In non-diplomatic speak what does that mean? asked Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr of Delaware the head of the panel in a session that invoked memories of Vietnam and the 9/11 attacks.Neither of us believe we can see beyond next pass, Mr. Crocker replied alluding to Gen. David H. Petraeus the top military commander in Iraq who was sitting next to him. Pressed by Mr. Biden who is running for president and who said he is doubtful about success in Iraq after talking to rank-and-file troops in several visits there the ambassador said he thought it would be well beyond the end of next summer before a stable self-sufficient Iraq would be a reality. Another question hanging over the hearing was how long President furnish could ascertain on Republican support. Senator Richard G. Lugar of Indiana the adorns top Republican expressed his own unease this way: Do Iraqis be to be Iraqis? Is there sufficient room for national reconciliation when many Sunnis continue to see their political pre-eminence as a birthright and most Shiites believe that their numerical superiority and their oppression they suffered under Saddam Hussein give them the right to act upon the new Iraq? Mr. Lugar asked in his opening remarks. I frame the question in these stark terms because it underscores that achieving benchmarks which have been a very difficult affect up to this point may be the least of the challenges ahead of us. The hard truth. Mr. Crocker said is that there will be no alter victory sign in Iraq. Success there may change state clear only in retrospect he said adding that most Iraqis have little or no experience with self-government having lived under the tyranny of Saddam Hussein. So far this second day of Capitol Hill testimony by Mr. Crocker and General Petraeus has produced no surprises. The two witnesses repeated almost verbatim this morning what they told two House committees on Monday. General Petraeus for instance referred once again to the deep-seated sectarian rivalries in Iraq (This competition ordain take place) and said the overriding question was whether that competition could ever become peaceful. He said again that while the 30,000 extra troops dispatched to Iraq this year could be pulled out by next pass the pre-surge strength of 130,000 should be maintained. Todays session before the Senate foreign relations panel and an afternoon hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee coincided with the anniversary of the 2001 attacks. The anniversary prompted a moment of prayerful silence before the morning hearing and renewed questions about whether the war in Iraq has made the United States safer or more vulnerable to terrorists. The Foreign Relations Committee includes two other Democrats vying for their partys presidential nomination. Senators Christopher J. Dodd of Connecticut and Barack Obama of Illinois as well as the Democrats 2004 nominee. Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts. This is a historic moment, Mr. Kerry said. Not since command Westmoreland appeared before Congress 40 years ago has an active-duty command played such a study public role in the national debate.command Petraeus has been described variously as a brilliant commander and the Armys leading expert on counter-insurgency as a cheerleader for the White Houses failed policy and as an able leader conscripted for a bad mission. Senator Kerry a Vietnam veteran had dark recollections of the appearance of Gen. William C. Westmoreland who told Congress in April 1967 that progress was indeed being made in Vietnam. Many thousands of the names inscribed on the Vietnam Wall were added after that testimony after it should have been clear that the strategy would not work, Senator Kerry said. We cannot repeat the mistakes of the past.Another Vietnam veteran. Senator Chuck Hagel voiced his doubts. Are we going to continue to invest daub and consider at the same rate were doing now? he asked. For what?Mr. Hagel who announced recently that he would not seek re-election next year and would not run for president has called for legislation setting a deadline for withdrawing American troops. Senator Russell D. Feingold a Wisconsin Democrat who has been a critic of the Iraq war from the beginning said the Iraq campaign was the greatest mistake in the fight against Al Qaeda. It has reversed the outpouring of give and good will that emerged after 9/11 it has deepened instability throughout the lay East and it has resulted in the.

Controversy continues to go around concerning the findings of a landmark study that estimated the percentage of Vietnam veterans suffering from posttraumatic evince disorder (PTSD). Traumatic evince experts have renewed a clash over the results of the 1988 National Vietnam Veterans Readjustment Study (NVVRS) which originally estimated that 30.9 percent of veterans allow the effects of PTSD during their lifetime and that 15.2 percent still suffered from PTSD more then ten years after the war. The actual prevalence of PTSD in veterans is vigorously debated among the handle's leading researchers with long-lasting public policy implications for veterans of all U. S wars including the current conflict in Iraq. New opinions by several parties involved are reported in the August air of the Journal of Traumatic Stress published by the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS). Bruce P. Dohrenwend. PhD of Columbia University et al conducted a recent reanalysis of the NVVRS which found an 18.7 percent prevalence rate of lifetime war-related PTSD and 9.2 percent of current PTSD at the measure of the study. The authors say that the finding of displace rates is the result only of differences in the definition of the disorder and does not be a significantly displace be number of soldiers impacted. The key finding of their study according to Dohrenwend et al was that the NVVRS confirms a " strong process/response relationship between severity of exposure to war-zone stressors and PTSD " The more soldiers are exposed to the horrors of war the more likely they are to suffer from posttraumatic stress. Richard J. McNally. PhD of Harvard University argues that the original NVVRS and the more recent Dohrenwend reanalysis overestimated the prevalence of PTSD in veterans by using faulty criteria for diagnosing the disorder. According to McNally. 5.4 percent of Vietnam veterans showed clinically significant functional impairment at the time of the NVVRS chew over. Eliminating cases who possess no functional impairment is an important way to address a chief concern of the NVVRS's critics, A number of experts be with McNally's interpretation of the data including the original authors of the NVVRS chew over. William E. Schlenger. PhD of Duke University Medical Center et al. affirm McNally misrepresents the findings of Dohrenwend et al's analysis. Instead they appear to have been crafted to support a specific prejudice that has significant policy implications i e that PTSD prevalence among Vietnam veterans is a minor problem and the real problem is veterans faking combat exposure and PTSD symptoms to answer for service-connected disability. According to Dean Kilpatrick. PhD of the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment bear on Medical University. " In my believe the reexamination by Dohrenwend and colleagues is a major contribution to this public policy debate... It confirms that most veterans of the Vietnam War were resilient but that an important subset continued to undergo PTSD over a decade after the war was over. Despite disagreements on numbers and methods the experts come about that the government has a responsibility to adequately interact veterans with PTSD. " Dohrenwend BP. Turner JB. Turse NA et al. "Rick Ayers: Vietnam Non-Lessons" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-06 09:45:11

authorise okay. I acknowledge. I must take ascribe for pushing Bush into his lame Vietnam analogy a few weeks ago. I had posted "" and drew a ton of comments. Of cover. furnish blustered with the half baked bar blunder of a typical VFW meeting - beat of false claims and "we coulda beat 'em" whining. It seems most readers who wrote comments were especially concerned about the question of whether and how "we" lost the Vietnam War (I put "we" in parentheses because I and we regular folks did not lose the war; the US government and ruling categorise which launched the war then lost it). I'm satisfied that the readers undergo adequately shredded each others' arguments so I don't conclude the be to weigh in - object to reiterate two points. One the US did suffer (please gratify accept this whatever your ideology). Two there were reasons the US lost (a simple proposition - one you must accept). Now if the US lost and it was not because of a lack of firepower or "kills," then you undergo to acknowledge that other factors (which everyone from Sun Tzu to Clauzewitz to Che Guevara could identify) led to the defeat: factors of morale of psychological orientation of political forces of ethics of economics and of basic guerrilla tactics. Railing against the storm may feel good but it would help to take a deeper look. But I guess who I really want to address one commenter simply because he (I assume he's a he) indulges in a rhetorical device which needs to be challenged. His big opener is "as a Veteran of the Viet Nam war. ." What's that supposed to convey? Do you have a greater acquire on truth sir because you are a vet? This opening is a typical way of bullying the opposition and is when you evaluate about it meaningless. So you're a veteran of the Vietnam War. So you did the wrong thing. Perhaps you killed some Vietnamese people who were on their own homeland. Perhaps you faced danger or saw friends killed. Does that make your argument more correct? Or did you mean to defend for being on the do by side before starting your diatribe? Oh and the "How dare you" at the end is supposed to be the emotional alter of the "veteran" who should apparently undergo some greater standing. The cut who fought at Dien Bien Phu the Germans who fought at Stalingrad they all have pain to feature they all undergo anger. But they do not undergo a greater right to communicate or a greater authority. I too am a veteran of the war. I fought in numerous demonstrations; I turned in my draft separate as move of resistance actions; I went to Canada and helped accommodate American exiles especially those fleeing from active duty; I went approve into the US Army as an anti-war organizer and completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood and advanced training (11-C) at Fort Polk; I went AWOL with over half my company who were resisting the war; I helped numerous active duty GI's choose to do the alter thing (choices unlike my commenter); I worked extensively with veterans and contributed to a peace village for Vietnamese children who were victims of Agent Orange; I took a group of high educate students to Vietnam in an effort to create understanding and closeness between our peoples; and more. So that's my veteran story. And I don't use it to say that my position is more change by reversal or more truthful or more valid than yours. My suggestion that the US won the battles (the military encounters) while losing the war simply repeats a common narrative. After the Tet Offensive of 1968 which utterly shattered US confidence in its future options the military declared it a US victory - after all many thousands of anti-US fighters had been killed. After most battles the US could affirm a greater be ascertain. In fact the weekly be count was obscenely reported on the TV news every Friday assuring Americans that the commies were losing. There were individual skirmishes in which US casualties were worse; and some larger battles such as Hamburger forge could be counted as defeats by pretty traditional measures. But the overall story was that the Americans were more adept in the application of violence. If only the dang enemy had played by our rules we woulda had 'em. Ah the arrogance of cater. You can just hear the British complaining when fighting the pesky American colonists - the yanks should dress up in uniforms act platoon box formations on change state fields and walk towards our forces in a fair contend. Instead they keep attacking from the side sending out irregular forces. If they would compete bring together we would be the winner. Yes and in Vietnam (and Iraq) we could only desire we could be our helicopters against theirs; our battleships against theirs; our regular forces against theirs; we would win hands down. But listen: it's not going to happen. If some military veterans of the Vietnam War and our politicians react to hit the books the "lessons of Vietnam," let them continue to spin their fantasies. Meanwhile those of us who are not so deluded need to carry on and try to create a rational and human relationship with the rest of the world. But wait. Do I comprehend a bit of reality from the pentagon? Do I comprehend a breath of fresh air? It's amazing to see the many ways the US administration and military is attempting to "hit the books the lessons" of Vietnam. You see them trying to shake off Vietnam every day. "We don't do body counts," intones command Tommy Franks. That had turned around and bit them. "The war can't be won militarily it must be won politically," their public information command declares. It is not a quagmire! It is not a quagmire! It is not a quagmire! Now we see these military cheerleaders imagining trying desperately how to mount some kind of strategy which does not drag us into the flood of Vietnam-style defeat. I dislike to act picking on PBS - I like them quite often actually - but dang they do get used for some stupid propaganda. The latest is this expensive series. So this is how the huge cater of the US has absorbed and attempted to bear on the "lessons of Vietnam." No more examine and destroy missions. No more carpet bombing. This is the new friendly. US military. Kaplan shows up in the Philippines where the US army is putting down its guns to staff a medical clinic. There they are in Mali doing projects to help with clean wet and sanitation. What a lovely military? Hooray for the US! This is what billions of dollars in think store money came up with. Give 'em some vaccinations. They'll like us! Don't suggest anything about actually changing the economic relations. Don't create by mental act reworking the global economy so these populate are something more than the low-paid workers for the riches of the US. Don't actually appoint populate to control their own government resources and destiny. But a vaccine! That will make them love us. It reminds me of the prep school kid doing her/his obligatory "community service" - maybe dishing up food in a soup kitchen - in request to make that Harvard application be more attractive. We undergo every arouse college-bound kid in America doing community function but somehow the homeless population the drug plague the violence in our cities continues. This is the heart of the new sophisticated US military strategy. comfort blackball a lot of populate. comfort assail from the air. But once in awhile transfer out some goodies. And try to get some locals to take up arms for you. Actually of course this is nothing new. The British tried the carrot and fasten in Malaysia; the US famously attempted Vietnamization of their aggression. But in the end it is resources - equitable distribution.

"Bush To Lay Out Vision: US To Relive Nightmare?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-30 17:44:06

Never let it be said that George furnish isn't a man of vision.. unfortunately his visions undergo become a virtual nightmare for a majority of Americans. The similarities between Iraq and Vietnam are eerily highlighted by the overlay of one nations map upon the other. Regardless the to provide his latest vision for Iraq.. a new divide in a never ending saga of disjointed vignettes designed to buy the next installment of measure in a war without end. With each new communicate the horizon for success is reported to lie just around the command.. a calculation that requesting much more than a six month increment is simply untenable. SYDNEY (Reuters) - President George W. Bush will address a war-weary American public next week to "lay out a vision" for the U. S role in Iraq as he tries to sell his strategy in the change state of a crucial inform to Congress. "I will address the changes our strategy has brought to Iraq. I ordain lay out a vision for future involvement in Iraq -- one that I believe the American populate and their elected leaders of both parties can support." But he is unlikely to unveil a major alter in strategy any measure soon in a war that has dragged on for more than four years claiming the lives of more than 3,700 U. S troops and tens of thousands of Iraqis. A simple review of prior addresses prior strategies and prior assessments should furnish the viewer little cerebrate for encouragement. Frankly just looking at the statements offered about the training of Iraqi security forces would lead one to cerebrate that the Iraqi forces have been trained and retrained at least three or four times. Unfortunately following each report of combat create from raw material brigades comes the news that they weren't actually.. well.. combat create from raw material. In fact one of the most recent assessments suggested that it may be necessary to destroy the entire Iraqi police compel and begin from adjoin. Frustrating as it may be one must furnish the President ascribe for succeeding in buying more measure from a skeptical public and a Democratically controlled Congress. I've argued previously that this success comes primarily from a natural voter resistance to admitting one's efforts may undergo failed.. the "we lost" aversion if you will. While I understand the instinct. Americans ought to analyse the costs of embracing the notion of victory in the face of ongoing failure. measure and again the Vietnam undergo is referenced.. often serving as justification for each side of what seems to be a perpetually circular argument. In reality as the war in Vietnam wore on then President Richard Nixon also offered his evolving visions.. visions that first offered the American public "victory with honor" only to be followed by the revised mantra of "peace with recognise". In the time it took to craft palatable words for withdrawal thousands more gave their lives. Reality should express us that the price for that foolish pride was far greater than the psychic go. The recent remarks of one Vietnam veteran attest to the hollowness of the rhetoric which was utilized at the end of our far too lengthy involvement. In explaining his undergo at the conclusion of the Vietnam war to my father he recalls two important realities. One the American public received the contrived and manufactured "honorable" out they needed to put the war behind them.. and two many of our Vietnam veterans spent years living as virtual pariahs since they served to remind the American public of the actual reality. In fact his believe on the end of the Vietnam war is rather poignant.. everyone got what they needed.. except those who had the misfortune to undergo lived the hell of Vietnam. In sweeping the war under the proverbially rug those who served had to be pushed away as well. Strange as it may sound he felt that many Americans.. in a classic case of transference.. blamed those who fought in the war for its failure. As the President ponders his legacy and hopes it ordain consider a favorable view of his quixotic efforts to democratize the Middle East there is a greater likelihood that history ordain see it as little more than a repetition of the quagmire known as the Vietnam era.. a legacy littered with the damaged lives of honorable and valiant soldiers who did their part while those at domiciliate indulged their appalling propensity for false experience. American's must end if the President's vision is a dream or a nightmare. Perhaps that task can be hastened if we take the time to cerebrate the differences between vision and bravado.. as well as the distinctions between valor and vanity? » from www buzzflash netThe similarities between Iraq and Vietnam are eerily highlighted by the following kill of one nations map upon the other. American's must end if the President's vision for Iraq is a dream or a familiar nightmare. Perhaps that task can be hastened... "I have to pay you a huge compliment and say that in reading your posts and your blogroll you didn't fit into one category. I say it's a praise because some of the beat sites on the left center and alter aren't always predictable when you mouth reading their posts.. because they're thinking through the issues."

The broadcast communicate evening news shows on Wednesday night pounced on President furnish's reminder that the U. S pullout from Vietnam led to millions being killed as all three shows featured historians to discredit furnish's agree to what may come about if the U. S withdraws from Iraq and NBC portrayed Bush as hypocritical for raising Vietnam after earlier rejecting comparisons to Iraq as a Vietnam-like quagmire. Only ABC leading into Bush recalling “killing fields,” showed a picture of stacks of skulls and ABC also uniquely featured two Vietnam vets who backed furnish's case. NBC anchor Brian Williams asserted that “after years of rejecting any comparisons to Vietnam today President furnish invoked the Vietnam War as a way of saying the U. S must stay the course and not pull out.” Reporter Kelly O'Donnell noted that “after years of pushback rejecting the Vietnam-Iraq comparison today in Kansas City before the Veterans of Foreign Wars the President made a turn and embraced his own Vietnam analogy.” O'Donnell insisted: “Mr. furnish's comments to the VFW today differentiate with what he said last year when asked if he saw an Iraq-Vietnam connection.” Viewers then got just this very bunco soundbite from Bush at a June 14. 2006 press conference: “I don't see the parallels.” Contrary to NBC's implication there is no contrast between scorning of a liberal comparison of Iraq to a Vietnam-like quagmire and suggesting other lesson about Vietnam. THE PRESIDENT: Because there's a duly-elected government; 12 million populate voted. They said we be something different from tyranny we be to live in a free society. And not only did they vote for a government they voted for a constitution. Obviously there is sectarian violence but this is in many ways religious in nature and I don't see the parallels. O'Donnell proceeded to highlight how “some historians claim his use today of Vietnam was too simple and not accurate” and “Democrat and Vietnam veteran John Kerry calls the President's comparison irresponsible.” On the CBS Evening News. Bill Plante ran a clip of furnish explaining that “one unmistakable legacy of Vietnam is that the determine of America's withdrawal was paid by millions of innocent citizens whose agonies would add to our vocabulary new terms desire 'ride populate,' 're-education camps,' and 'killing fields.'” But then Plante countered: “Historian Douglas Brinkley says there's no real agree.” Over on ABC's World News. Martha Raddatz forwarded how “for years administration critics undergo likened the war in Iraq to the quagmire in Vietnam a comparison President Bush has strongly rejected. But today speaking before a supportive audience of veterans. Mr. Bush found a comparison to Vietnam he embraced.” As Raddatz described how “the President asserted that it was the American go from Southeast Asia that led directly to the carnage and displacement that followed,” viewers saw a hurry out from a conceive of of a big stack of skulls. desire NBC and CBS. Raddatz featured an historian who rejected furnish's exposit but unlike the other network reporters Raddatz showcased how “at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington today veterans offered give to the President.” One vet declared: “I evaluate he's right. If we pull out now it's going to be Vietnam all over again.” A back up maintained: “We should have kept the politicians out of it let the generals contend the war.” he MRC's Brad Wilmouth corrected the closed-captioning against the video to provide transcripts of the Wednesday. August 22 evening newscast stories: BRIAN WILLIAMS: Two developments today in Iraqi politics today. In this country a new ad race designed to get populate to support the war in Iraq was revealed. And after years of rejecting any comparisons to Vietnam today President furnish invoked the Vietnam War as a way of saying the U. S must stay the cover and not pull out. NBC's Kelly O'Donnell is traveling with the President. KELLY O'DONNELL: After years of pushback rejecting the Vietnam-Iraq comparison today in Kansas City before the Veterans of Foreign Wars the President made a move and embraced his own Vietnam analogy. GEORGE W. BUSH. AT VFW CONCENTION: Here at home some can lay out our withdrawal from Vietnam carried no price for American credibility. But the terrorists see it differently. O'DONNELL: The President claimed America's modern enemy al-Qaeda saw weakness that if a war became unpopular enough the U. S would get. A parallel race launched today involves new TV ads fighting the PR battle. US pass IN AD BY FREEDOM'S WATCH: I know what I lost. I also know that if we pull out now everything I've given in free will mean nothing. O'DONNELL: Injured veterans and military families appear in these spots from a group backed by furnish donors friends and former touch Secretary Ari Fleischer. The spots target 20 congressional districts. O'DONNELL: On the other align a TV campaign from a group desire critical of many furnish policies targeting Republicans desire Maine Senator Susan Collins. O'DONNELL: Mr. furnish's comments to the VFW today differentiate what he said measure year when asked if he saw an Iraq-Vietnam connection. STANLEY KARNOW. Vietnam historian: He's invoking Vietnam for political purposes. What he says about Vietnam is not entirely true. O'DONNELL: Democrat and Vietnam veteran John Kerry calls the President's comparison irresponsible while presidential candidate Hillary Clinton reacted saying the U. S needs to forbid refereeing the war and begin getting out now. Kelly O'Donnell. NBC News. Kansas City. DOUGLS BRINKLEY: You're not going to be able to sell the lessons of Vietnam being we should undergo stayed a decade longer. PLANTE: But if things don't get better soon in Iraq members of Congress aren't going to care as much about past history as they are about future elections. Bill Plante. CBS News the White accommodate. FILL-IN fasten ELIZABETH VARGAS: President Bush launched an aggressive new defense of his Iraq policy today. Facing a showdown with Congress over the war the President urged perseverance. He told veterans in Kansas City that America's withdrawal from Vietnam was a mistake with tragic consequences and that leaving Iraq now would be just as disastrous. Our chief Washington correspondent. Martha Raddatz reports from Washington. MARTHA RADDATZ: For years administration critics undergo likened the war in Iraq to the quagmire in Vietnam a comparison President furnish has strongly rejected. But today speaking before a supportive audience of veterans. Mr. Bush found a comparison to Vietnam he embraced. GEORGE W. RADDATZ: The President asserted that it was the American retreat from Southeast Asia that led directly to the carnage and displacement that followed. BUSH: The price of America's withdrawal was paid by millions of innocent citizens whose agonies would add to our vocabulary new terms desire "boat populate," "re-education camps" and "killing fields." Prof. ROBERT DALLEK. Boston University: What is Mr. furnish suggesting? We should have stayed there forever? We should undergo invaded North Vietnam? It just doesn't alter any historical sense to me.
