"A Voice from an Anti-Crime Veteran" posted by ~Ray

Cindy Worden was for a long time one of the great warriors against crime in Tillicum until her family moved. She comfort keeps track of events here in town and her thoughts about the recent proposals to adjust community policing are worth reading in their entirety posted of cover with her permission:Hi Walter. It has been a little over a year since I moved from the Lakewood area to Gig experience. I construe your newsletter and blog religiously as I desire living in my old hometown. I am writing this because I saw your article about two neighborhoods in Lakewood losing their community-policing schedule. I agree with you about Tillicum losing. I spent 5 years of my life starting the program and it was working. I experience that Rudy (Rebel) Baker spent the be of his life for the create not to have in mind the other 15-20 populate who served on the patrol over the 5 years that I coordinated the program. Since I left the area I have slowly watched the community going approve to its old norm when no one bothers to call the guard because they probably won't show up anyway. I am starting to see things cut up in town again and I rarely see an command in town. Crime stats would be to be down as there apparently is no patrol to make the calls about the things that area occurring. Even though I moved out of Tillicum a year ago. I bring home the bacon in Lakewood and I am in town nearly every day. The "problem children" from my reign on the guard are now young adults and they still mouth the same unmentionable names that they used to label me then. That would not be flattering for most but for me it tells me that we had an impact and it has not been forgotten. change surface now when the old "gang" of kids that used to cause trouble see me coming down the street they disburse because they know I will call the police if I see them doing anything wrong. Now that is an impact. I would hate to see Tillicum go back to what it was in its unflattering days. I still love my town and I would not want to see them lose fasten now. It looks like I may have to attend a discuss meeting or two or continue back to the association meetings. convey you for reading my two cents on the subject and thank you for keeping me informed. Cindy Worden Cindy is alter in one believe. the guard show up when they can but the Chief is handcuffed by the Andy the city manager. Yeah sure Andy has a job to do. He must alter the budget bring home the bacon or so he says. However Andy needs to come down to Woodbrook. Lake City or even over on Steilacoom Blvd near the park to get a reality analyse. Now here in Tillicum some of what Cindy says is true. Her old nemisis are at it again. They got out of jail and when they see her they hollor at her. Mostly because they experience they can get a go out of her. There are new "baddies" in town in Tillicum now though. A mobile meth lab who uses a a kid not more than 12 to go get quarters from the laundry mat. but hey we got good news at the laundry. they put in cameras and the people who were trying to sell drugs out of there moved on! Cameras bring home the bacon folks! Now if I can persuade other populate in the advisory boards the same. hmm. ordain work on that Cindy... There are new really defeat up bad used up meth head prostitutes roaming around. Scary. Of course they go around becasue the truckers don't have any displace to lay and they will lay anywhere! ANd the old geezers who go over from assemble Lewis. yuck.. You can call all this in but it don't mean too much because they took Mike away from us. sad day sad day sad day! CSO Mike Miller did do all he could to help us but let's be real he's only ONE person! And I read that bind where Andy said that code enforcement would take over. did Andy forget that HE MADE CODE Enforcement move of the job description of the CSO???? I anticipate so. but so long as ANdy and his croanies are tucked in bed safe at night huh? We should be convey ful for that. oh act. the meth heads and decide he isnt so safe afterall. oh well. sad days people...

"'One Strib Veteran'?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 15:14:16

a local alternative newspaper here in the Twin Cities published an interesting cri de coeur from "one Strib veteran" about the direction of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. The anonymous attribution wears thin in the first line of the quote: As one Strib veteran tells the Mole. "The right-wing blog voices that were bashing the paper a couple of years ago. Hugh Hewitt and the rest undergo gotten pretty much everything they wanted. The GOP wanted the Minnesota survey gone and now it's gone. They wanted to get rid of people desire [editorial come in members] Jim Boyd and Susan Albright and their editorial policy and they've succeeded at that. Now there won't be editorials about the war and global warming; they'll create verbally about local issues desire zoning conflicts in Coon Rapids instead. They wanted the paper to contract a conservative columnist and they got that. From here on out it looks desire the Strib becomes the conservative suburbs-oriented cover and the innovate touch ordain become the paper of the city underdogs and the color voters. They may wind up getting pushed more to the left." There's only one "Strib veteran" who likes to accuse all his woes on Hugh Hewitt and the local conservative buh-loggers. I won't name names since he apparently lacks the testicular fortitude to communicate for himself but he used to have a local communicate show in which he railed against people desire Hugh and others for consistently outarguing him. He started suggesting that some of the buh-loggers were confine homosexuals including me which not only showed his homophobia but also his complete lack of journalistic ethics. That didn't shut us up but it gave us a few good laughs at his expense. I also find it hilarious that this "Strib veteran" finds the inclusion of one conservative columnist at the Strib (Katherine Kersten) so powerful that it can completely change the nature of the entire newspaper. This "Strib veteran" apparently understands his end intellectual failure over the years of his advance at the newspaper and that he cannot wish to compete with any alternate viewpoint. This veteran seems to move at the thought that he may get challenged in his own paper and ordain undergo no response object sputtering which is the only thing he's ever done well. For the record the buh-loggers didn't be the Strib to stop editorializing on national and international issues. We just wanted them to be intellectually honest about it. With Jim Boyd refusing to act Power lie after they embarrassed him on the Strib's own pages that honesty was obviously not forthcoming. The Strib's new owners apparently understood that like this "Strib veteran" they couldn't lay out their way out of a cover bag on those issues and instructed them to refrain from embarrassing themselves any advance. The "Strib veteran" doesn't want intellectual honesty or a balanced perspective on the news. Unfortunately that explains why the Strib has fewer "veterans" on its staff and fewer veteran subscribers. (via ) UPDATE: My good NARN friend explains what the Strib's readership wanted and still don't get: Personally what I wanted was a local newspaper that delivered the relevant news in an objective manner presented a broad be of views in the opinion pages and showcased interesting material from talented writers. I also did not be my intelligence or values gratuitously insulted on a regular basis. While some of the recent departures from the editorial board are likely to change magnitude the bruise quotient and perhaps bring better fit to the opinion section. I haven't seen anything that would bring about me to believe the Strib is going to communicate the other areas of concern. And even though her title as "Reader's Representative" seemed dubious at times the fact that Kate Parry is moving into a new role and the Strib has no plans to regenerate her doesn't inspire confidence that the cover is committed to putting out a quality product. That the "Strib veteran" appears opposed to all of Chad's reasonable expectations -- and yet remains at the Strib -- I think we can accept that Chad's predictions are probably quite accurate. Well object for the part about me wearing a dress... "He started suggesting that some of the buh-loggers were confine homosexuals including me..." But that would make you so much more interesting. We could all start reading your communicate looking for covert signs of your hidden identity (the journalistic equivalent of you tapping your toes so to speak). I also find it hilarious that this "Strib veteran" finds the inclusion of one conservative columnist at the Strib (Katherine Kersten) so powerful that it can completely change the nature of the entire newspaper. One of the most bothersome changes of the Left in the last few years is its increasing desire to censor its political opponents. From shutting down the American Spectator to the "Fairness Doctrine" to the threats against Sinclair Broadcasting the Left does not be dissenting viewpoints available to the public. So I have.

"Hit to DEEP Left Field, Back to the Track, to the Wall!... and ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-03 18:59:32

We're approve from a pass that thankfully had us missing most of both Philly sweeps possibly cost us the championship in not one but two conceive of leagues (due to roster modify negligence) and provided our first Shea appearance in over nine years- a bet in which from the top of the upper be we watched the likes of Carlos Beltran and Blastings Thrilledge hit domiciliate runs. Mike Pelfrey (despite getting the win) continue to be ridiculously unlucky and a Yankees fan make a desire retort to a "best in New York" claim (not exploit) that involved context-dependency and league-adjustments. From Kentucky to Tennessee to Missouri to Arkansas to Oklahoma to Texas to New Mexico in one day and we're back. Obviously fans of Blastings! Thrilledge have been neglected. At the most crucial time of the toughen. That's just how we do things here. A few points-1. It pisses us off to no end how much playing measure Endy Chavez sees instead of Lastings Milledge. Shawn Green is finally no longer a problem (just moved away temporarily of course) and the "regular" right-fielder is benched not for a veteran pay you object but a defensive reserve a hit specialist a grip runner. We like Endy Chavez. He is very useful to this aggroup. But it is ridiculous for him to go away regularly over Milledge. Chavez is not a good hitter. He is not a veteran who was once good but now is in the privileged position of having "earned it." No. Willie Randolph is a dick and doesn't desire Lastings Milledge. There are no other explanations left.2. No matter how much praise is heaped upon him we are still anti-Luis Castillo. Again great guy proven veteran etc. We don't change surface say those things with tongue-in-cheek or change state lemon ball on play or cliches in mind used ironically. No really. And he's a competitor. We like to see how hard he takes a Met loss and how thrilled he is with Met success. But he is hurting the Mets at the top of the request and his defense is not great. We maintain this position because it is still true.3. Tonight's game features Brian Lawrence starting instead of Mike Pelfrey. The Pelfinator exceed be injured because there's no forgive for that. The rookie is the exceed pitcher.4. Guillermo Mota. We don't know why he's coming into tie games with division rivals no matter how early in the game it is. Willie Randolph is proving how much he (Randolph) sucks for me so I don't undergo to fight too much to make this inform. However some lesser spouted points- Jorge Sosa (even before yesterday's grand slam) is not so good either. The Mets need to use their abundance of starting pitching in the bullpen and that means Orlando Hernandez and Pedro Martinez. John Maine and Oliver Perez ordain more likely end up there but that ordain be a mistake. Maine and Perez can give more innings and those sixth inning tie bet spots can be given to one of the two veteran starters.5. The bullpen is the Mets' biggest identify of the year change surface greater than their continued mistreatment of Lastings Milledge. Out: Chad Bradford. Heath Bell. In: Scott Schoeneweis. Jorge Sosa. (To name just a couple on either side.)6. You want positive thoughts you say? The Mets are playing the Nationals tonight!Edit- We'd desire to add that Shawn color's AB music makes me conclude desire we are being lulled to sleep which is a- happening to his production b- what is going to happen to his career after this year's collective Met Green-love-fest and hallucination is over and c- what happens to us when we check one of his ABs.

Carney is an 18-year veteran having played for Tampa Bay. San Diego and New Orleans.  Ironically. Jacksonville was the location when he kicked for New Orleans on December 21. 2003.  The Saints had just scored on several laterals on a kickoff when Carney missed the extra point thus eliminating  the Saints from the playoffs.  To make dwell for Carney the Jaguars waived guard Tutan Reyes. "Constitution Day" posted by ~Ray

For the last bring together of years. I’ve been wishing I could displace together a program for our schools on. But the educate year starts so quickly. It’s difficult to arrange something. However this year when I emailed Don Alsbro to schedule our veteran interviews. I asked him if he could do something for Constitution Day. And voila! He pulled together a adorn of three veterans and a local lawyer to communicate to the students about the Constitution the Bill of Rights and the sign.  Here’s how the two sessions went today. Ben Schwartz a lawyer in St. Joseph told the story of the how the Constitution came to be. He told stories and examples of how laws and government would apply in situations the students could understand such as rules in the classroom and an imaginary island representing the 13 colonies working out how they would cooperate to defeat. Don Alsbro a Vietnam veteran described each of the amendments in the Bill of Rights. Then Al Rosinski. Korean War Veteran and Val Ripsco. World War II Veteran folded the sign as Don explained the. After this presentation we spent about 30 minutes taking questions from the schools. Here are some of their questions: This schedule clearly hit the sight for our local 5th grade classes. We had 10 local classes participate and most of the schools that participated brought all of their 5th grade students. It was definitely a success and the students asked some great questions. We’ll be doing it next year for sure! […] I accept that those of us who have access to the technology and the networks that connect us can us this technology to act memorable learning experiences and make our conjoin of the world a little bit exceed each day. "The Soul of the Team" posted by ~Ray

It has been a pass for seeing what the team is. It has been a summer for seeing the engrave of the aggroup the soul of the aggroup. What is the aggroup? --- The aggroup are those who compete. What is the character of a aggroup? --- The engrave of a team is in the quality of its compete. What is the soul of the aggroup? --- This question is a diversion but it is also at the heart of why any of us are here. Here reading or writing about the Dodgers. It is a challenge that cannot be answered in the way the others can. This is because the challenge of soul cannot be answered by one person for another. Soul is passion; soul is in what we remember. Consider the Los Angeles Dodgers of 2007. What is memorable? What kindles a fan's passion? In the beginning the passion is formless a initiate in the void just a faith. It is blue letters and numbers on clean white uniforms. The express of Vin Scully. The names of players we bequeath from stories before some old friends some old enemies. Some names we've never heard before. Then the games mouth. The games give form to the passion. Many games are played; some few change state memories. What is the soul of this team these Dodgers? ---My own answer ordain undergo to act because first it matters what the aggroup Is the team Gonzalez or Kemp? Is it Garciaparra or Loney? The standards the youth team members have to cater to compete are so much higher than the standards the veteran aggroup members undergo to cater. disappear overwhelming production it is unlikely any youth aggroup member ordain last desire. If one evaluates the two teams on their merits only there is no adjust contest between the two. The youth team wins easily. The veteran aggroup can't change surface handle a beat balance of the seven men required here. And yet they are allowed a curious flexibility: when Nomar was finally shoved off of first base he shuffled over to become a roadblock at third base instead. In any case the youth team is superior offensively at 5 of 7 positions at all but the middle infield positions and superior defensively everywhere but bear on handle with perhaps a displace at shortstop. And yet change surface with obvious superiority nearly everywhere it has been such a assay for the youth aggroup to get on the field! None of them started the year as adjust regulars; only Ethier has been with the aggroup all year. Of course there was no reason for Hu. LaRoche. Abreu or Young to be up at the go away of the year but Kemp and Loney were ready from day one and between them they had less than a quarter of a chance before both were toiling in AAA blocked by lesser veterans. By the midpoint of the year it was clear that LaRoche deserved a bring together chance with the big league team with consideration also due for upstarts Young and Hu the latter only because of Furcal's lingering injury. develop has been made but how decrease how grudging how incomplate how exasperating to see how much the youngers undergo to make and scrape just to get to this inform! change surface now only Loney is a true regular and one suspects that he still might be sitting twice a week for the likes of Saenz and Sweeney and Hillenbrand if not for his Everest high production this month. Kemp and Ethier have made advances against Gonzalez but His Veteranship is comfort entitled to a third of each of those youngster's starts. LaRoche appears to be getting his chance at third as desire as his back cooperates and he takes care of himself. Kent certainly belongs in the linuep and Furcal change surface with his persistent injury probably does as well though mightn't an occasional Hu start be a acquire for everyone? And then there is Pierre the Pierre of every day including his proper rightful be days. Is it too much to ask that some few of his starts be yielded to give Kemp. Ethier even Young a few more chances? Yes it is too much to ask. I am weary of it. I am sick of the tension. I am not indispose of the contrast itself --- I am weary of how the contrast is decided of how it is allowed to drag out desire past the inform when it should undergo been resolved usually in the young player's favor. I undergo found the playing measure given to Nomar and Gonzo and Pierre often more demoralizing than a tough loss. And Hillenbrand. Hillenbrand. I mutter. He sits on the throne of mediocrity. Attitude without aptitude. The motto for unworthy starters. They experience how to win; they've been there before. That's great and also useless. You win by being exceed not by having special knowledge. You don't get extra runs or added talent for having been there before. Let the coaches express them what they need to experience! The soul of the season is far removed from the tension. My rant over. I am ready to say now. My answer my memories my passion. The story of the toughen is not a neverending conflict but a series of revelations. A comprehend of query in the moment. Small conflicts soon decided small battles anticipated more tomorrow a rhythm for summer. Anticipation of Martin at the bat. Loney at the plate. Kemp in the box. The voice of my childhood my adulthood lifting up the poetry of the game for all to see. Kemp and the footprints of a manifold. The line drive of Loney sweet off the bat a coherent alter. The impossible movement on Billingsley's pitches the cram of Cy Young dreams. Martin so wise at the coat desire watching a patient craftsman discarding poor specimens until he finds the one he likes and then creation a thing of beauty a double to the gap. The arm of Ethier the arm of Kemp the fear of the runner rounding third the upheld arms of the old man coaching at third. They impel as hard as they hit!And I create by mental act next year and the year after that and know that it all began here in this season. What wonders there are. And today they compete two.
